For this last week of 2020 we will continue our series of expressions of hope, healing and courage. Today’s quote is a favorite of mine. As survivors we have all experienced some of the ugliness of life. But Desmond Tutu reminds us ugliness is not all that there is in our world, nor is it all powerful. Like him, I believe goodness can transform ugliness. Just as evil deeds seem to ripple out into the broader world, so do good deeds. I believe they have transformative power. Even a little act of kindness contributes to goodness in our world.

What is an act of kindness you have experienced this year? What kindness have you given to another this year? Please share your thoughts in the comments.

Be well. Stay safe. Take good care.

A good deed doesn’t just evaporate and disappear. Its consequences saturate the universe and the goodness that happens somewhere, anywhere, helps in the transfiguration of the ugliness.”

Desmond Tutu
