Alta Lodge is nestled in a quaint alpine setting at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon, outside Salt Lake City, UT. The Lodge is part of a rare tradition of country inns where the attentiveness and warmth of family hoteliers is combined with the pleasures of excellent dining and comfortable surroundings.  The atmosphere of the Alta Lodge is relaxed, intimate and informal.  This will be our 26th visit to Alta Lodge, which tells you how much we love the facility.

Located at 8,600 feet (2,700 meters) at the base of the Alta Ski Area in Utah's Wasatch Mountains, the setting offers gorgeous surroundings and spectacular mountain views. During September, the trees are usually in the prime of their fall colors, adding to the beauty of this setting.

Private meeting spaces are available for all Weekend of Recovery sessions. The weekend is designed to provide a mixture of full participant community activities and small group break out sessions. Large group sessions are conducted in an adjacent building with a full wall of windows that views a 10,000 foot mountain. Small groups are conducted in comfortable physical spaces in the Lodge. Special attention is given to creating safe environments that allow participation at whatever level is authentic for each participant.

The Lodge provides comfortable lodging, with an ample supply of triple, double, or single occupancy rooming options. The weekend incorporates mindfulness skills as a tool for managing difficult emotions such as anxiety. The mountain environment provides a wonderful settings for expanded mindfulness and program activities.

The weekend allows ample leisure time for reflection and to enjoy the restorative quality of this mountain ecosystem. Optional time for meditation walks and a low-impact recreational hike are included in the program agenda.

Meals at Alta Lodge are of the highest quality. The outstanding cuisine will certainly be one highlight of your Weekend of Recovery. Special dietary requests are easily available. On Sunday, we have access to an elaborate buffet, featuring gourmet breakfast, lunch, and dessert items! All of your food and snacks are included in your registration fees.

About Weekends of Recovery

Weekend of Recovery (WOR) Retreats provide complementary support for any male – 18 or older – who is a survivor of sexual trauma as a child and/or as an adult. By engaging participants in creating an environment that supports safety needs for male survivors, our program format seeks to acknowledge and honor the authentic diversities of attendees at each WOR (racial, ethnic, class, spirituality, sexuality, gender,  etc.). Alumni of WOR retreats report the experience contributed to easing their suffering; to enabling higher functioning; to facilitating  healthier relationships with friends, partners, children; to inspiring activism; and to diminishing the cycle of victimization.

Facilitator Team

The Facilitator Team for the 2019 Alta Level 1 WOR is comprised of both male and female facilitators; Lee Beckstead, Margaret Hunter, Lisa Jameson, Matt Stella, Jim Struve, and Diana Thomas.

We do not want cost to be a barrier for anyone to attend any of our retreats. 20 - 80% scholarship grants are available for both triple and double occupancy room selections at all Weekends of Recovery. Scholarships are considered in order of submission.  Please apply NOW.
