Congratulations. You made it through the holidays. For many of us they were a challenge. Welcome to a new year. Whatever happened last year, happened last year. If it was a tough time and you struggled to get by, today it is a new day, a chance to take a step toward healing and wholeness. If it was a good year with recovery and growth, it is a new day, a chance to continue building on what you have done. I hope you hear the theme. Today, this day, is a new day. Right now.
When get caught in the feedback loop of the past, the I-should-have messages, it is hard for me to move, to breathe, to be my best self. If in those moments I focus on “now,” this moment I am in at this time, then I can stop the noise, breathe and find perspective. I can move forward.
Bring yourself back to now
Oprah Winfrey says it better:
When you feel the earth moving, bring yourself back to the now. You’ll handle whatever shake-up the next moment brings when you get to it. In this moment, you’re still breathing. In this moment, you’ve survived. In this moment, you’re finding a way to step onto higher ground.Oprah Winfrey
Bring yourself back to the now. It is in the now that we can act. The now is the moment for action. We can tell those “should-have” voices; “Don’t should on me!” Now we can treat ourselves with kindness. Now we can do something good for ourselves. Now we can reach out to someone. Now we can offer a hand up, a warm hug, a listening ear to another.
This new year is filled with “nows.” You and I will handle whatever the next moment brings when you get to it.
May this be a year of living in the now.
Be well. Stay safe. Take good care.
