Board Member

Yao Obiora Dibia recently joined the MenHealing Board of Directors. He brings over forty years of postgraduate social work experience and education to MenHealing. Yao Obiora is an advocate of services for male survivors of sexual abuse, trauma, assault and harassment. For twenty years he has provided individual and group psychotherapy, support groups, and healing circles, for male survivors.

Yao Obiora focuses on helping boys and men in healing-centered experiences. His work includes collaborating with NYS Department of Corrections, providing hotline services and phone counseling sessions for incarcerated men who report sexual abuse.

Yao Obiora is actively involved internationally with the South-South Institute on the Victimization of Men and Boys; GMHC; and Gay Men of African Descent, raising issues of lack of services to marginalized communities of survivors, and the general failure to address male sexual abuse in all communities. His aspiration is to be part of MenHealing’s growth as a space of acceptance, compassion and care, to men wanting to heal from the trauma of male sexual abuse, supporting the phenomenal work of our Facilitator Team.

Yao Obiora lives and works in New York City, in the vibrant Dominican neighborhood of Inwood, located at the tip of Manhattan, on land formerly protected by the Lenape Nation.
